Iran has announced that the US has agreed to remove all sanctions on its oil and shipping. The remarks on Wednesday, were made by outgoing President Hassan Rouhani’s chief of staff.

Talks in Vienna to revive the 2015 nuclear deal between world powers and Iran have been under way since April.

Germany has struck a note of caution, however, and the German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas said that there are still significant hurdles to a deal.

“We are making progress but there are still some nuts to crack,” Maas told a joint news conference with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

U.S. National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said on Sunday there was still “a fair distance to travel”, in respect to sanctions and on the nuclear commitments that Iran will have to abide by to salvage the agreement that was rescinded by Donald Trump.
