Publisert

Panama has joined hundreds of maritime companies, shipping lines, organisations, and flag states by signing the Gulf of Guinea Declaration.

Signatories to the declaration have agreed that piracy and kidnappings are preventable through anti-piracy operations — they have the joint aim to reduce the number of attacks off West Africa by 80% by the end of 2023.

The coalition of signatories proposes the following:

• Supporting concretely anti-piracy law enforcement
• Facilitating the implementation of effective onboard measures, within the region
• Improving capabilities in the use of technology and exchange of relevant information among anti-piracy law enforcement agencies
• Working to improve transparency among law enforcement agencies

So far there have been 16 incidents in the GoG this year.
