The Shoei Kisen-owned 20,388-teu, ultra large container ship, Ever Given, looks set to be detained for another week in the Suez Canal, as the vessel’s owners and the Suez Canal Authority (SCA) finalise a compensation deal.

The vessel blocked the canal for six days in March, holding up an estimated 12% of the world’s maritime trade.

Expectations that the ship would be released from detention rose when it was announced an agreement in principle would be formalised in line with Egyptian law by around 1st July.

However, cargo interests have indicated to TradeWinds that they now expect further delays while the deal is finalised and payment to the SCA arranged.
