Bangladesh to Cancel Permissions for Three Depots

Due to the violations of the requirements of the SOLAS convention and the DoS standards, the DoS has canceled the permission of Nemson Container Ltd, BM Container Depot Ltd, and Eastern Logistics Ltd, which do Verified of Gross Mass (VGM) verification on the off docks.

The stringent implementation of VGM came to effect last August when the 1,700TEU OEL Hin was unbalanced with containers right before leaving Chittagong due to containers being improperly placed.

So far, 32 businesses have been given permission by the DoS to work in inland container depots using machinery and delivering certificates after weighing containers, and a two-person committee has been formed to investigate whether these companies are in compliance with VGM.

Principal Officer at the Mercantile Marine Office, Giashuddin Ahmed, states, “If they are found non-compliant their licenses will be cancelled.”
