The 50,000-dwt Zodiac Maritime-operated tanker, Mercer Street, has been attacked off the coast of Oman in the Arabian Sea. The incident on Thursday night occurred approximately 159km from the Port of Duqm.

London-based Eyal Ofer-owned Zodiac Maritime said in statement that there has been a suspected piracy incident and that the vessel is owned by the Japanese company Taihei Kaiun KK.

“At the time of the incident, the vessel was in the northern Indian Ocean, traveling from Dar es Salaam to Fujairah with no cargo onboard,” Zodiac Maritime said in a statement on Friday.

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations reports that an investigation is ongoing and that is does not believe the attack is piracy related.
