The U.S. Coast Guard reported that a 120-foot dredge barge capsized in the Charleston Harbor Resort and Marina on August 4.

Dredge barge staff at the Charleston Harbor Resort and Marina called the Coast Guard Sector Charleston watchstanders at 3:34 a.m. to notify them that the dredge barge was capsized in the marina. The dredge barge’s reported maximum potential for diesel fuel is 1,000 gallons.

Upon arrival, oil sheen was visible in the immediate area.  To help minimize environmental impacts in the wake of the incident, Marcol Dredging Company deployed a boom around the barge.

On-scene partners are working with the Marcol Dredging Company to coordinate recovery and clean-up operations.
