Branching out into tidal energy, Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (K Line), the Japanese shipowner is working to develop a tidal energy project in Nova Scotia, Canada. This project will be the first time a Japanese company participates in a project overseas for tidal energy.

The first turbine is expected to begin operations in 2023 in order to power three underwater turbine generators to be installed in the Bay of Fundy.
