Preparation activity for the fishing season is well under way, which will begin on September 1 in the seas. While fishermen who set anchor in Samsun Port in Turkey were banned from fishing in the Black Sea (as a result of the ban on fishing in the Black Sea), fishermen who were not vaccinated against the coronavirus were kept from sailing, by the Samsun Fisheries Cooperatives Union.

Atıf Malkoç, the president of the Samsun Fisheries Cooperatives Union, announced that anyone who has not gotten vaccinated against the coronavirus will be banned from going to sea or to the port.

Fishermen will not be allowed on the boat this year if they are unvaccinated, according to Malkoç. He explained, “This situation affects us a lot. This is necessary for us and for them.”  The Union predicts that control measures will be implemented more stringently starting after the first month of the season, and is confident all port-affiliated cooperatives will apply the same control scheme.
