The Japanese Astomos Energy Corporation is preparing to welcome the first domestically built LPG-fuelled LPG carrier to its fleet later this month.

The 54,000 DWT Crystal Asteria represents a significant step forward for the Japanese LPG market and is fitted with a MAN duel-fuel electronically-controlled liquified petroleum gas injection diesel engine (ME-LGIP) manufactured by Kawasaki.

She measures 754 feet, with a beam of 122 feet. Her LPG cargo tank capacity is approximately 84,229 m3. Astomos was formed in 2006 and says it plans to focus on LPG as an alternative fuel in Japan.
