Ron DeSantis has declared a state of emergency for the Florida panhandle as Tropical Storm Fred stalks the Gulf of Mexico.

A storm warning is now in effect for the coast of Florida from Navarre to the Wakulla/Jefferson county line, meaning storm conditions are expected in the area within 24 hours.

Fred’s maximum sustained winds were 40mph on Sunday morning and the Alabama state governor, Kay Ivey, said the state was also monitoring the weather system and “will be ready to act from the state level if needed”.

Tropical Storm Grace is also threatening parts of the Carribbean with high winds and heavy rainfall forecast for the Leeward Islands, Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.
