The 58,735-dwt Navios Amaryllis (built 2009) has gone aground in the Maldives. The Panama-flagged ship was en route to South Africa from India when it struck the Rasfaree Reef in Kaafu Atoll. Initial reports suggest the Greek-owned vessel suffered engine failure.

“All crew members are safe on board and there have been no reports of any injuries,” a company spokesman said.

“There are currently no reports or concerns regarding the vessel’s water-tightness nor of any pollution,” the spokesman confirmed.

Navios said it regretted the incident and that a full damage assessment is underway. An operation to re-float the vessel will be carried out under the direction of the Maldives coastguard.
