AP Moller-Maersk has announced that it has ordered a dozen dual-fuel neo-panamax boxships. The Danish giant placed the order with Hyundai Heavy Industries in a deal that has an option for an additional four vessels.

However, the company did acknowledge that finding carbon-neutral methanol might be a challenge, but that it would use e-methanol or sustainable bio-methanol as soon as possible.

“Sourcing an adequate amount of carbon neutral methanol from day one in service will be challenging, as it requires a significant production ramp up of proper carbon neutral methanol production, for which Maersk continues to engage in partnerships and collaborations with relevant players,” the company said.
