New data from Blue Alpha Capital suggests that US exports have slumped considerably in relation to exports, with more containers leaving major US ports empty than loaded.

The New York-based consultant said the difference between imports and exports has widened to a new record ratio of 2.75x compared with a 2.19x average in 2020 and 1.85x in 2019.

Gene Seroka, executive director of the Port of Los Angeles said: “Our largest export commodity continues to be air as we reposition empty containers back to Asia,” said Mr Seroka.
