The New York times has reported that a 70-year-old woman has died from Covid-19 after being transferred home to the US from the Carnival Cruises cruise liner, Carnival Vista.

The woman was taken ill while the Vista was docked in Belize on a round trip from Galveston, Texas, that departed on 11th August.

27 cases of Covid were reported on the ship at the time, mostly among the crew. However, the woman may have contracted the virus on a previous cruise that departed Galveston on 31st July.

Carnival Cruise Line issued the following statement: “Carnival has implemented a suite of protocols that are designed to flex up as needed to adapt to the changing public health situation related to COVID-19.

“We meet the standards for a vaccinated cruise as defined by the CDC, with at least 95 percent of our guests and all of our crew being vaccinated, and then implemented additional measures, as we are now requiring vaccinated guests to present both proof of vaccination and a negative COVID test at check-in…”
