On August 22 a Russian drill ship named Bavenit departed for the Laptev Sea to make history. This will be the first time stratigraphic wells will be drilled in the area states Rosneff who owns five licenses in the Laptev Sea.

In an effort to create a geographical model of the region to further investigate if there is the potential to extract oil and gas in the area, these wells will help the discovery.

The Bavenit assigned to the task can drill and complete geotechnical surveys in the far northern Russian Arctic shelf.
