New Hydrofoil Designed Ship Unveiled

Publisert

As boat builders seek to overcome the drag that comes with propulsion over water, hydrofoil technology, created in the 19th century, has gained much increased interest as of late.

Candela Speed Boat AB of Sweden is banking that flight can eliminate the fundamental impediment to marine electrification. Because it uses hydrofoil, it can use less energy and have a smaller battery.

Introduced on August 26, the Candela C-8 is an 8.5 meter boat with a total of eight seats, a sun bed, a front cabin, and a marine toilet. Candela’s C-pod promises a silent ride when it hits 16 knots and rises to the surface, then up to 30 knots limited.

A senior technology analyst at IDTechEx said, “The fact that they’ve designed the prop and the components into the vessel itself is what is going to make this efficient.”

Candela built and delivered its own software for their vessels as well. Along with many of its innovative tech features, the Candela has a HR 15.4 inch touch screen navigation system and an app with various boat control settings which helps bring the price approximately $341,000.
