Autonomous Tug Journey Around Denmark via Remote Operation

Publisert

An autonomous tugboat will depart for a 1,000 nautical mile journey on September 30, which will be remotely controlled by Boston based Sea Machines Robotics.

The tug, named Nellie Bly will leave Hamburg, Germany to voyage around Denmark using the autonomous technology while being controlled by the officers commanding the vessel in the US.  As a safety, the tug will have two officers on board throughout the mission.

To Sea Machine Robotics, this project is to determine that global waters are ready for long range autonomous vessel journeys.

“Just as other land based industries shift repetitive, manual drudgery from human to predictable robotic systems, our autonomous technology elevates humans from controller to commander with most of the direct continuous control effort being managed by technology.” said Michael Johnson, CEO of Sea Machines.
