A Thai boat captain who had various pending arrest warrants was arrested after being on the run for nearly 5 years by the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Division in Thailand.

One of the arrest warrants was issued in September 2016 accusing the captain of human trafficking by forced labor.

6 Cambodian workers were hired by the Thai captain, a 59 year old Somwang, and were promised wages however they were never paid and in fact, kept at sea for approximately one year before ever being allowed to ever return to shore.

Once returned to shore and the continued concern of receiving no payment, the men went to the respective organizations to raise awareness of their wrongdoings which caused the captain to flee.

The captain was arrested in the Samut Sakhon district and continues to claim his innocence.
