126,000 Gallons of Oil Spill off California Coast

An oil spill occurred on October 3rd in the waters off the Southern California coast which is now being the called the largest oil spill on record in the US.

126,000 gallons of crude oil has leaked into the Pacific Ocean affecting the 90 species of birds in the area and fish in the ocean with many already washing ashore.

The cleanup can take weeks to months expects officials due to the 13 square meters of oil covering the ocean off the Huntington Beach area and coastline.

The 41 year old pipeline in question is operated by Amplify Energy.

As divers are currently investigating the spill on October 4th ,  officials announced they are looking into whether the pipeline was struck by a ship’s anchor who happened to be in the area.

The investigation is ongoing.
