Suez Canal Authority Celebrates 152nd Anniversary

On November 17 1869 the Suez Canal Authority (SPA) held its inauguration ceremony after the ground breaking ceremony in August of the same year.  Later, it would become a canal that would transport and contribute to at least 12% of the worlds transit traffic through its waterways.

Now, 152 years later on November 17 the SCA celebrated their anniversary revealing that in these past years, an estimated 1.4 million ships which equates to an approximate total net tonnage of 31.1 billion tons with goods accounting for 24.8 billion tons have trafficked through the canal making it one of the top transited water ways in the world.
