On November 24 while on patrol in the Gulf of Guinea, Danish naval patrol forces, the Frogman Corps aboard the Esbern Snare encountered a nearby vessel carrying 8 suspected pirates when gunfire proceeded to exchange.

Warning shots were fired by Frogman Corps as the pirate vessel was getting closer to commercial ships.

The pirates returned the gunfire and a shoot out occurred between the two killing 4 pirates and injuring 1.  The injured pirate and remaining were taken aboard the Esbern Snare without further incident.

Anne H. Steffensen, CEO of Danish Shipping stated, “We have always said that the Gulf of Guinea is the world’s most dangerous water, and the situation of last night stresses the seriousness of the situation here. There is definitely a need for the presence of the Danish soldiers, and even though it may sound tough: piracy comes with a price.”
