Rise in Vessel Robberies in Singapore Strait

Of data collected from November 1 to December 1, in one months time it was reported that a total of 6 vessels encountered robbery activities while located in the Singapore Strait in the eastbound lane.

No injuries or weapons were reported in any of the incidents, only stolen equipment.

ReCAAP Information Sharing Centered issued a statement on the matter and a warning to all vessels traveling in the area to stay vigilant.

“The ReCAAP ISC urges the littoral States to increase patrols in their respective waters, respond promptly to incidents reported by ships, strengthen coordination among the littoral States and promote information sharing on incidents and criminal groups involved in order to arrest the perpetrators.”
