Alleged Drunkenness Leads to UK Ship and Danish Boat Collision

Publisert

In the early morning hours of December 13 a distress call was received at the Swedish Maritime Administration (SMA) of an alleged boat collision amid the darkness and fog within the area of the Baltic Sea near the Swedish coast.

The UK cargo ship Scot Carrier collided with the Danish boat Karin Hoej causing it to capsize in the frigid waters losing two crew members in the process.

Rescue efforts were deployed including two helicopters and collectively boats from Sweden and Denmark searched for the crew but eventually the search was called off.

Drugs and alcohol tests were given aboard the Scot Carrier and later a British individual and a Croatian individual were both arrested after the initial investigation shows signs of possible drunkenness and gross negligence.
