Hyundai Heavy Industries to Build Four Ships for Maersk

Publisert

After placing a shipbuilding order for eight vessels in 2021 with options for additional ships, Maersk has decided to use those options with Hyundai Heavy Industries as they now will be building an additional four 16,000 TEU methanol-fueled ships for the company.

The newbuild containerships will be powered by carbon neutral methanol and are expected to be delivered in 2025.

Maersk released a statement on January 10 that stated, “Once fully phased in, the 12 vessels will generate total annual CO2 emissions savings of 1.5 million tons or 4.5% of total Maersk fleet emissions and offer Maersk customers truly carbon neutral transportation at scale on the high seas.”
