Saipem Crane Being Assessed After Tilting During a Lift

Publisert

Italian oil industry contractor, Saipem, issued a statement on April 14th, regarding the Saipem 7000 crane, that tilted during a lifting operation in Norway earlier that same day.

All 275 people that were on board the crane at the time were evacuated safely.

Saipem stated, “Further to a preliminary assessment, it would appear that the main block wire broke during the test lifting operation and the testing load (two cargo barges) with the main block were released in the water. The unit, after an initial tilting caused by the load release, promptly returned in a stable position and safe condition. A crane assessment is ongoing.”
