Collaboration Between Petronas and Eneos
Hydrogen Opportunities Explored by Petronas and Eneos
The clean hydrogen supply chain gets further research push after a recent joint partnership announcement by Petronas and Eneos. In addition to hydrogen production and liquid transportation, both companies will conduct a technical-commercial joint study.
To aid in the efforts, Japan’s Eneos has requested government funding from their Green Innovative Fund as they finance decarbonization projects and others of the like.
Because it appears more chemically stable, Malaysia’s Petronas is optimistic that liquid organic hydrogen carrier (LOHC) technology will continue to grow as a feasible option for long-term storage and long-distance delivery.
Together, Petronas and Eneos will look into producing low-carbon hydrogen from Petronas’ petrochemical plants and green hydrogen from renewable energy sources.
Petronas’ vice president and CEO, Adnan Zainal Abidin said, “With emerging clean energy sources like hydrogen, innovation and collaboration with partners in technological development are key, as they contribute towards achieving cost competitiveness and scalability for wider use across businesses and industries.”
