Hapag-Lloyd Expects Huge Profits Amid Supply Chain Disruption
Supply Chain Disruption Results in Profits for Hapag-Lloyd
Early earnings reports state that Hapag-Lloyd expects its first-half EBITDA in 2021 to be $4.2 billion, up from $1.3 billion during the same period in 2020.
According to container shippers that are looking for a return to normal supply chains and high container freight rates in the second half of 2021, the news was not favorable.
Operational disruptions caused by the supply chain are expected to cause significant delays further complicating the supply situation. Now Hapag-Lloyd expects significantly bigger profits to be reported in the second half of the year as a result of normalization occurring on a much more rapid basis.
This calculation forecasts EBITDA for 2021 of $9.2 billion to $11.2 billion.
