Shoei Kisen apologises
The owner of the Ever Given, the ULCS currently blocking the Suez Canal, has apologised for the disruption to traffic and says it is putting all of its resources behind efforts to resolve the situation.
Shoei Kisen, the owner of the ill-fated Ever Given that is hard aground in the Suez Canal has apologised for the accident and says it is doing all it can to re-float the massive containership.
In its first statement since the 20,388-TEU vessel went aground, the company said it was working with ship managers, Bernard Schulte Shipmanagement “toward an early resolution of the situation”.
“To the vessels that were transiting the Suez Canal and those planning to pass and all those involved in the incident we sincerely apologise for the trouble caused,” said the shipowner, which is part of Japanese Imabari Shipbuilding group of companies.
The company has blamed the weather conditions at the time for the grounding.
Ever Given is under currently under time-charter to the Taiwanese company, Evergreen and the China Times has reported that Evergreen’s chairman, Chang Yen-Yi, told Taiwan’s transport ministry that the shipowner would be “liable for any damage to the ship”.
“There will probably be some surveys over the ship and the incident later on before they can assess if there is any damage, and whether it would be covered by the insurers,” an Asian shipping source told Trade Winds.
