M/S Wasa Express sold
Vaasa-based Kvarken Link agrees to sell ferry on private terms to UME Shipping
In a press release, the Finnish/Swedish company Kvarken Link, has announced it will sell the M/S Wasa Express to UME, the United Arab Emirates-based firm. Kvarken Link is currently building the Wasa Aurora Botnia to replace the Wasa Express in the Spring. The replacement ferry will ply the Vaasa to Umeå route and the Wasa Express will enter service in the Red Sea.
Captain Peter Ståhlberg, Managing Director of Wasaline, said: “We are very pleased that we managed to enter into an agreement with UME Shipping who has a good reputation in maintaining and operating their vessels and have set a new standard for ferry operations in the Red Sea…”
M/S Wasa Express was built in Helsinki in 1981. Her LOA is 140.8m, beam 24.5m and gross tonnage is 17,053. She is designed to have a crew of 65 and carry 915 passengers. The Aurora Botnia is being built at Rauma Marine Constructions in Finland.
