Pemex Platform Fire Causes Multiple Injuries, Deaths and Missing Persons
Five
On Sunday, August 22, a fire on a Petroleos Mexicanos (Pemex) offshore platform broke out as personnel were performing maintenance on the platform in the southern Gulf of Mexico. It killed five people and injured six with two people still reported as missing.
Pemex Chief Executive Octavio Romero said one death is a Pemex employee and the four others were from a contractor firm.
The company is planning to restore gas and oil output by Wednesday after restoring power to the facility and connected wells.
Pemex stated it would further investigate the cause of the fire at the E-Ku-A2 platform in the Bay of Campeche. By Sunday afternoon, the blaze was controlled.
