Video: Fire at Port of Cork
Port of Cork suspends all operations from Ringaskiddy as grain storage facility catches fire beside deepwater berth.
A fire which broke out in the R&H grain store in Ringaskiddy, Port of Cork, has been brought under control. A statement made today by Cork County Council (CCC) said that fire crews were dealing with the aftermath of the blaze and continue to manage the still smouldering animal feed that fuelled it.
Fire crews from Crosshaven and Carrigaline were joined by teams from Midleton and Cobh Fire Station to help manage the incident. According to CCC: The crews have been “exposing, dampening and extinguishing any hot spots within the storage facility”, and “..this natural, organic animal feed will continue to smoulder until it is removed from its current position.”
Local residents have been advised to stay indoors and keep windows and doors closed. No casualties have been reported and it is hoped that shipping will be able to resume later today.
