Video: Golden Ray wreck fire now out
A fire inside the Golden Ray wreck in St. Simons Sound near the Port of Brunswick has now been extinguished.
Fire crews have succeeded in putting out a fire in the wreck of the Golden Ray near the Port of Brunswick and the lead salvage contractor, T&T Salvage, said crews will soon be able to gain access to the site to assess its structural integrity.
“Once we are able to access the site safely, we will conduct a thorough analysis of the structural integrity of the wreck as well as all wreck removal equipment,” said Matt Cooke of T&T Salvage.
The break-up of the capsized vessel started in November 2020 and is being performed from the heavy-lift vessel VB-1000 which was evacuated of non-essential personnel during Friday’s fire.
The port remains open to traffic and a 200-yard safety zone has been established around the wreck site.
All personnel are accounted for and no injuries were sustained.
