Yang Ming to Purchase Five LNG Containerships
Board Approves Yang Ming to Move Forward with Purchase Plans
In January 2022 Yang Ming’s board of directors approved a fleet expansion plan of 5 containerships for the Taiwanese company. Yang Ming has now announced those 5 newbuild containerships will be 15,000 TEU each and equipped using LNG as power source in an attempt to lower their emissions.
Yang Ming would then take the lead in Taiwan as being the only carrier to operate LNG containerships once the newbuilds are complete and in service.
Yang Ming released a statement that said, “In the spirit of environmental sustainability, Yang Ming is using LNG for the new fleet on account of its relatively mature low-carbon technology.”
