Shipping Suspended Amid Durban Floods
Durban Flood Impacts Shipping and Washes Away Cargo
Severe flooding caused by heavy rains in Durban, South Africa, has swept away an indeterminate number of containers and resulted in the suspension of shipping activities at the Port of Durban.
“Shipping has been suspended until further notice as a result of damage caused by the adverse weather, and vessels on berth are on standby,” said Transnet, a South African freight operator responsible for the Durban Port.
Reportedly, people have been looting any stray containers they find. Nearly 50 people have died as a result of the heavy rains and flooding.
