Worker killed at Port of Savannah
A longshoreman at the Port of Savannah, in Georgia, died in a deadly crane accident last week.

SAVANNAH — A member of the International Longshoremen’s Association Local 1475 died in an accident at the Garden City Terminal at the Port of Savannah, according to the Georgia Ports Authority (GPA) in a statement.
“At approximately 6 a.m. Friday, an accident tragically took the life of a member of the International Longshoremen’s Association Local 1475 at the Port of Savannah’s Garden City Terminal,” said the ports authority administration.
GPA said that the longshoreman is named Stephen Cobb, aged 50, was caused by an equipment accident involving a rubber-tired gantry crane. According to the Chatham County Coroner, Cobb was pronounced dead on the scene of the incident.
“The Georgia Ports Authority would like to extend its condolences and concern to the worker’s family and his brothers and sisters of the International Longshoremen’s Association,” the port authority said.
Reports indicate that the Georgia Ports Authority Police Department is leading the investigation. Currently, details about the actual events have yet to be released.
