Since Kenyan maritime waters have being labeled a high-risk area (HRA) since 2009, Kenya has been actively campaigning to express otherwise as it’s greatly compromised global shipping industry associates in the area.
On Sept 8 after expressing their concerns feverishly, the global shipping industry decided to remove Kenyan maritime waters from the list and in turn advised the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
The result of this change will greatly help Kenya monetarily as it will save greatly on insurance fees and other expenses and also increase the possibility for direct traffic to their ports.
