New Details Released by U.S. Navy Regarding Helicopter Crash
Continued details in regards to the U.S. Navy helicopter crash aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln platform near the San Diego coast last week are emerging as new information was disclosed by military officials on September 7.
A preliminary accident summary was released by the Naval Safety Center on Tuesday where they reported the MH-60S Knighthawk helicopter began to experience “side-to-side vibrations” when it was landing on the platform during what was expressed as routine flight operations.
Due to the rapid motion of sway, the helicopters rotor struck the ships deck resulting in impact to cause the helicopter to fall into the ocean.
Six crew members were aboard the helicopter at the time of the crash, one sailor was rescued the same day from the sea during search and rescue efforts.
No other sailors were rescued or found after a 72hour search by air and sea of the area.
The exact cause of the accident is still unknown however, investigations continue.
