US Air Force Wants Special Ops Amphibious Aircraft
New Amphibious Aircraft Eyed by US Air Force
On September 14th military officials announced plans to move forward with the implementation of a new special operators aircraft.
The MC-130J Commando II, used for secret missions, is an aircraft currently used by special ops, but the Air Force would like to equip this aircraft as an amphibious, pontoon version.
Equipping the aircraft with removable type of pontoons allows the military to explore water-shore and lake landings when runways and roads aren’t an option.
Lt. Col. Josh Trantham stated, “Seaborne operations offer nearly unlimited water landing zones, providing significant flexibility for the joint force.”
