Master accused of negligent behaviour in grounding off the Maldives
The captain of the Navios Amaryllis is being held responsible for accident last week.
The master of the Navios Maritime Partners supramax bulker, Navios Amaryllis, is being held accountable for the vessel’s grounding in the Maldives by the country’s Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation.
At a local press conference earlier today, deputy minister Hamad Abdul Ghanee said the vessel’s captain failed to report engine problems to authorities ashore.
“Prior to the ship running aground, we noticed that the engine problem they were facing was not reported to the coastal state. Moreover, actions which should have been taken in the capacity of a captain, such as anchoring the ship or requesting for help were not done,” Ghanee was quoted as saying.
