Maltese MT New Ranger has been Boarded 160nm SW of Brass, Nigeria
The unfortunate vessel has been intercepted yet again while underway in the Gulf of Guinea
This is the second incident this week off the West Coast of Africa and the third time the New Ranger has been boarded this month, reports Dryad Global.
The New Ranger has been boarded in June and September 2011, in January 2015 and most recently on the 5th and 6th of December. Security analysts predict that as failed attacks continue, the region’s pirates are likely to become more desperate.
Shipping is especially vulnerable to boarding at night from fast skiffs and vessels are advised to operate at the highest alert level and are recommended to stand at least 200-250nm out to sea.
