Port of Long Beach Receives Go Ahead for New Rail Facility
US Maritime Administration Give POLB Green Light for Rail Facility
The Port of Long Beach located in California, U.S., has recently received approval from the US Maritime Administration for plans to develop a new on-dock railway at one of its piers.
The port is seeking to increase the amount of cargo handled by on-dock rail by 7% with the new addition, effectively decreasing the number of trucks needed to move cargo.
Mario Cordero, Port of Long Beach’s Executive Director, said, “Simply put, the Pier B on-dock rail support facility will move cargo faster and with fewer environmental impacts.”
The new rail facility is estimated to cost US$ 1.5 billion.
