Ship Congestion Causes Washington Ports to Extend Hours
Extended Hours Needed in Seattle and Tacoma Ports for Ship Congestion
Ship congestion has been crippling ports globally as of late. Ports in Asia, UK and the US have all been dealing w backlogs for weeks due to the Covid-19 pandemic, typhoons and other shipping issues.
Ports in Washington state are among the latest to make an announcement of adjustments needed due to shipping congestions impacting their terminal.
There are currently an estimated 15 vessels combined anchored near Ports of Seattle and Tacoma that are waiting to berth.
Even though the number is small, these are ports that vessels are normally able to pull directly into.
To get ahead on the issue, port terminal operators are extending their hours with longer night shifts and even weekend operations on Saturdays along with other implementations hoping to ease the current backlog.
