Nominations Invited for Singapore Maritime Awards
Nominations sought for 2021 Singapore International Maritime Awards (IMA)
The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) is seeking nominations for its IMA awards scheduled for 2021, as reported by Manifold Times.
A major highlight is the addition of a new category, which is the Sustainability Award. This award seeks to recognize maritime companies that have worked towards sustainability in the industry while contributing to building a greener, more eco-friendly system in the entire maritime world.
Additionally, there are two awards NOT open for a nomination but rather to be decided based on an internal evaluation. These include:
- Green Ship of the Year award – Criteria for this include the use of alternative fuels and other green technologies. The Energy Efficiency Design Index of the IMO (International Maritime Organization), along with other determinants, will play a key role in deciding the awardee.
- SRS Green Ship Owner award – Criteria for this would be the quantum or percentage of green ships that a potential awardee company has registered under the aegis of the SRS. This award will coincide with the 10-year anniversary of the Green Ship Programme setup by MPA.
Commenting on the landmark occasion, the Chief Executive of MPA, Quah Ley Hoon, said “We are deeply heartened by the support of the local and global maritime community which has affirmed Singapore’s position as a leading international maritime centre. IMA 2021, a key event of MPA’s Singapore Maritime Week, seeks to recognise individuals and companies that have stood out in their contributions to Singapore as a hub port and international maritime centre.”
He further continued “As we move into a post-COVID 19 world, MPA will continue our efforts to enhance our connectivity as a global hub port, innovate and digitalize our maritime ecosystem while promoting sustainable shipping.”
