After 24 Years in Japan, USS John S. McCain Returns to Washington
From Japan to the U.S. the USS John S. McCain Goes to Washington
After arriving in Yokosuka back in 1997 and completing many operations and exercises, the USS John. S McCain a guided missile destroyer, is heading back to the US.
The vessel departed Tokyo Bay on September 17 and is on its way to the Naval Station Everett in Washington which will be its new home port and join 3rd Fleet to operate in the Eastern Pacific region.
Cmdr. Tin Tran, the ships skipper said in a Navy news release, “After 24 years of faithful overseas service, we are ready to head back home to America, back to Washington State. Our sailors will forever remember the bonds of friendship and hospitality Japan has shown us.”
