ReCAAP issues warning after crew member attacked in Singapore Strait
The piracy reporting centre, ReCAAP, has issued a further warning about the risk of maritime crime in Asian waters, after a crew member was attacked in the eastbound lane of the Singapore Strait TSS.
ReCAAP has issued another warning after two ships were boarded in the Singapore Straits earlier this month. The organisation says one crew member was injured in a confrontation with the criminals.
“ReCAAP ISC is concerned with the continued occurrence of incidents in the Singapore Strait, particularly off Tanjung Pergam, Bintan Island, Indonesia,” the center warned. “Of the 12 incidents reported in the Singapore Strait [this year], nine incidents occurred off Tanjung Pergam.”
A similar spate of maritime security incidents occurred in January with vessels boarded on January 25, 28, and 29. All three boardings took place in the eastbound lane of the Singapore Strait’s traffic TSS.
