37 Rescued as Ship Sinks in Turkey
Migrant Boat Sinks While Survivors are Rescued
A total of 37 migrants were saved from a boat with 45 migrants on board that was sinking in the southern part of the Mediterranean on Friday, July 23. Search and rescue efforts were continuing to be conducted by Turkish naval ships and an aircraft for an additional 8 people missing, the Turkish military announced.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement saying that on Thursday evening, it had learned that the boat was sinking at a position a little over 260 kilometers (161 mi) southwest of the Turkish tourist town of Kas.
Due to bad weather and high water and weather conditions, two naval frigates and a naval airplane were dispatched to search the region.
