Apparent Suicide Aboard Tanker
Officer Found Hanged from Apparent Suicide
On October 1 aboard the tanker named Shandong Zihe, the Third Officer was found hanged in a bow thruster room from an apparent suicide.
As the vessel was on journey to Banco Del Hoyo Anchorage in Spain from the Gulf of Guinea, the 24 year old Third Officer missed replacing the CO for dinner. A search ensued aboard the vessel and approximately 1900 UTC the Officer was found.
Telemedical Maritime Assistance Service (TMAS) was called at the time the Officer was discovered and CPR was applied but at 2047 UTC he was pronounced deceased.
The vessel continued on and arrived October 3rd at Europa Point Gibraltar where she is currently anchored.
