Foreign Crewmembers in Dire Situation in Ukraine
Crewmembers Still Unable to Leave Ukrainian Waters
Over 100 ships, carrying approximately 1,000 crewmembers, remain trapped in Ukraine due to the Russia-Ukraine war. As many of the vessels have been trapped for a month and a half, they have been left in a dire situation as they have begun to run out of essential supplies, such as food and drinking water.
The International Labor Organization (ILO), and International Maritime Organization (IMO) have issued a letter detailing the urgency of the situation and seeking action from international humanitarian groups, such as the International Committee of the Red Cross, and United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
