Panama Canal Makes Record with Goods Moved
Record Reported for Panama Canal Goods Flow
A new record high has been made within a 12 month period for goods moving through the Panama Canal after more than 500 million tonnes were recorded during the 2021 fiscal year (FY).
Coupled with the combination of larger ships being stacked with more containers and the rising liquified natural gas (LNG) transport, the Panama Canal has reported that through the FY of 2021 which just ended in September, they’ve flowed through an estimated 516.7 million tonnes of goods which accounts for approximately 3.5% of maritime trade globally.
The Panama Canal Authority’s administrator said, “It’s been an exceptional year.”
