Settlement reached over the Ever Given
Suez Canal Authority and Shoei Kisen reach agreement over compensation claim.
A tentative agreement has been reached to secure the release of the boxship Ever Given from the Suez Canal.
Stann Marine, representatives for owners Shoei Kisen, said an agreement in principle has been reached with the Suez Canal Authority (SCA). The terms have not been disclosed.
“We are now working with the SCA to finalize a signed settlement agreement as soon as possible,” said Stann Marine director Faz Peermohamed in a statement. “Once the formalities have been dealt with, arrangements for the release of the vessel will be made.”
Lawyers representing the cargo interests aboard the ship said the vessel will head directly for Rotterdam when the ship is ready to sail. Once there, cargo owners will have to pay a general average bond to cover the cost of the ship’s salvage.
